Founded in 1958 by the Sabers of Denver car club, the Tri-State Auto Exhibition is one of the longest-running indoor custom car shows in the Rocky Mountain region. Created to celebrate craftsmanship, creativity, and safe motorsports, the show quickly became a Denver tradition—bringing together hot rods, kustoms, motorcycles, and visionary builds that reflect their owners’ personal expression.
During its peak years in the 1960s and ’70s, the Tri-State Auto Exhibition drew record crowds and national attention, showcasing historic and groundbreaking vehicles. Highlights included the first car to exceed 200 mph in Colorado, the first top fuel rear-engine car to participate in the 1969 Pomona World Finals, early rear-engine Top Fuel dragsters, and iconic pop-culture machines such as the Bonnie and Clyde death car, Dean Martin’s car from the movie "Gold Diggers" and Batman’s "Bat Cycle". These moments helped establish the show as a proving ground for world class automotive shows and automotive history.
After a long hiatus in the early 2000s, the Sabers proudly revived the exhibition in 2020–2021, carrying its legacy into a new era. Today, the Tri-State Auto Exhibition continues to spotlight show-quality builds and pioneering technology alongside model car contests, RC racing, pinup competitions, and interactive experiences honoring the past while driving car culture forward for enthusiasts of all ages.
